Assumption Parish Waterworks District No.1, a non-profit organization, was formed in 1959 with the sole purpose of serving the citizens of Assumption Parish with potable water. The District’s governing body is made up of eleven individuals, which nine are from each part of the parish. The Police Juror from each ward of the parish appoints one individual that make up this board and two are appointed by the village of Napoleonville. The Board of Directors appoints the General Manager. The General Manager is in charge of the daily operations of the Water plant and the employees that are employed by the district. The current population served by Assumption Parish Waterworks is approximately twenty-three thousand one hundred (23,100).
The source of the drinking water is Bayou Lafourche. The treatment plant is located at 4633 Highway 1 in Napoleonville, Louisiana. The plant consists of four treatment plants with a total capacity of seven million gallons a day.
